Borealis Birth Services Christina Sim, RN / Doula
borealisbirthservices@northwestel.net (867) 456-2959

As a Registered Nurse and Birth Doula, I offer Doula and Breastfeeding support, prenatal classes, belly casts, books, slings, cloth diapers and healthcare workshops. The birth of my son and subsequent breastfeeding experiences inspired me to train as a doula and become educated in lactation management. I have a compassionate and delicate approach to my care, helping to ensure a safe and healthy birth experience as defined by the mother.

--A woman's experience with birth must be respected, nurtured and honoured - it will be with her for life and shape her future in profound ways --

 What is a Birth Doula?

A birth Doula is a trained individual who attends the birth of a child providing continuous physical and emotional supports to the mother and her partner. A  birth Doula is trained to recognize the different stages of labour, provide non medical pain relief and provide and teach various skills for helping the mother stay focused on her labour and to help her labour progress naturally. A birth Doula also acts as an advocate, communicating the wishes laid out in the mother’s birth plan to staff and others attending her child’s birth, helping to ensure a safe and healthy birth experience as defined by the mother.

I believe every woman should have a Doula at her child’s birth. Research shows attendance during labour and delivery by a Doula can shorten the length of labour, reduce the likelihood for a cesarean section, reduce or eliminate the use of analgesics or anesthetics, enhance bonding and breastfeeding for the baby and mother and have an overall positive impact on the birth experience and outcome.

Continuous support from a Doula has been proven to have an extremely positive effect on the birth family long into the postpartum period.  I run an independent Doula Practice for a fee, however, Doula services are not currently covered by Yukon Health Insurance Services or Non Insured Health Benefits.  If you are in a situation of financial difficulty; payment plans, sliding scale  and payment in community trade can be  discussed.

Feel free to call and chat about your prenatal, labour or breastfeeding needs.

Privacy and confidentiality assured.
